How to Help
The Indigenous Literacy Project (ILP) invites everyone to join the effort to raise awareness of the literacy
crisis affecting many remote Indigenous Australians, and to raise much needed funds
to support the literacy work of The Fred Hollows Foundation.
Attend an event on Indigenous Literacy Day, 1 September 2010
The fourth annual Indigenous Literacy Day is
Wednesday 1 September 2010 with events held across Australia. Keep an eye
on the events page for details.
Buy a book at a participating bookshop on Indigenous Literacy Day

Literacy Day to ILP. Click here

Hold or attend a Great Book Swap fundraiser
The Great Book Swap is a fundraising idea for schools, businesses, groups, organisations and
bookclubs.
Through the Swap we can share our common
love of books while raising money to support Indigenous literacy. It's very simple
and also a lot of fun. You donate one of your favourite books and pay a small
fee to swap it for someone else's book at your swap. All money raised is donated
to ILP.
You can register online if you'd like to
host a swap at your school, business or club.
Donate a book pack
You can donate a set of 12 early childhood books, selected by a Fred Hollows
Foundation literacy
expert, that provides
babies, toddlers and preschool children in remote Indigenous communities access
to a valuable reading resource. You can read more about the books and how to donate them
here.
Make a direct donation
Donations are very appreciated from individuals, businesses, organisations and
schools. The Donations page has
full details.
Are you a teacher, teacher-librarian or school principal?
Over 100 schools supported ILP in 2009 . Many held
their own Great Book Swap, hosted
author visits on Indigenous Literacy Day or fund-raised for ILP. The
project is an excellent tool to start a discussion with your students
about Indigenous literacy. Click here for
further information.
